Remember how on the Brady Bunch (and other sitcoms), the family used to always be having encounters with celebrities who just happened to be in town and someone ran into them at a gas station or the grocery store? Or, how, they would invite a celebrity to come to town to perform at their prom and the celebrity would actually show up? Or, how one of the kids would be feeling down and another would write to a celebrity to ask them to come cheer the first kid up?
Does that still happen in today’s sitcoms?
Real life would really be enhanced if it had more celebrity guest appearances.
I know one kid who could sure use a phone call from Jack White or a trip to the malt shop with Johnny Depp, right about now.
Last night, I was reading a story to Annie from her Care Bears storybook. As usual, Care Bears were sliding down rainbows. She said that she wished she could do that. I asked her if she thought that you could really slide down rainbows. She said Yes
Tonight, I was reading a story to Annie from her Care Bears storybook. As usual, Care Bears were sliding down rainbows
She said that she thought that you could really slide on rainbows, that all rainbows were really flat like that for sliding. I said that, actually, rainbows are made out of raindrops and the colors show when the sun shines on them just right.
Then, I realized what I was doing! I was taking something magic away from her, something wonderful and fun.
So, I said, “Well, at least that’s what the scientists say, anyway. Of course, I’ve never touched a rainbow, so I don’t know for sure. Maybe the scientists are wrong. Who knows?”
Then, Annie & Shelby talked about, someday, taking a helicopter out in the rain & flying by a rainbow so that they could touch it or fly through it and then they would know. I said that would be a good idea.
Whew!
I hate when I take magic away from them.
