The best part of any day
When I can finally relax and stop thinking two steps ahead into the day.
For example, here’s tonight:
Got home from work
As I was walking in, thought that I should pick up the dog mess in the yard, so that the kids could go out with me, later, while I was working in yard.
Got inside & decided to pick up clutter in living room first.
Noticed it needed vacuuming, so I did that.
Went outside to pick up after dogs. While I was doing that, thought through everything I had to do that night. Decided I’d better start the bread (to bring to my sister’s tomorrow), so it could rise.
Inside again, I washed up, then started the bread with the kids (after getting them to stop the video game for a bit)
Had Al watch the kids while I ran up to hardware store (had seen we needed sand & birdseed while I was out in the yard earlier). Also picked up another set of clippers in case Al wanted to help me. (on the way through yard to car, dumped the water out of the sandbox so it would be ready & start to dry off when I got home with new sand)
Got home, got the kids off of video game again. Got shoes & socks on them & went outside.
Put sand in sandbox. Fed birds.
45 minutes later, came inside, washed up, punched down the dough & formed loaves.
Shelby came in & took shoes off, thinking I was staying inside.
Got his shoes back on & went outside again.
After answering the kids desire for paint to paint the fence, got started on clipping overgrowth wherever I could find it.
6:30 - went inside, started dinner. Put bread in the oven. Started putting away leftovers from crockpot from lunch
Kids were a mess, so I threw them in the tub.
Back and forth from tub to kitchen. Somewhere in there, the smoke alarm started going off as it often does when we use the oven. Also, accidentally put italian-seasoned tomatoes in the mexican rice… Knew that, if things kept going like they were, the dog would soon pee on the carpet, so I put her outside.
Finished rice. Got kids out of tub. Made Shelby’s soy cheese quesadilla. Told Shelby that if he wanted to eat outside with us, he’d have to put clothes on. He had a fit about finding his own clothes, while I continued trying to make the regular cheese quesadillas…
It just went on like that. Knowing that I would have to still finish dinner, clean kitchen, have Allison make brownies, clean & cut vegetables, make dip, clean kitchen again, make Jim’s dinner… And everything else that came up in the evening & try to get it all done before I dropped in exhaustion.
Now, everything’s done. The little ones are in bed. And, I can finally stop thinking ahead to ‘whats the next thing that I have to do’ and ‘what will I be doing later that I have to prepare for now’ and ‘what needs to be done by the end of the day, but takes multiple steps & when will I do them’ and ‘what might happen in the next few minutes that might throw everything off & what can I do to keep that from happening’.
Ahh… I’m glad that Allison DVRed some mindless TV for us to watch.
